1860 – PRIMEIRO MISSIONÁRIO BATISTA ENVIADO AO BRASIL

Thomas Jefferson Bowen chega ao Rio de Janeiro no dia 21 de maio e se volta aos escravos de língua Iorubá. Apesar do curto ministério, foi seu filho na fé, Richard Ratcliff, que organizaria a primeira Igreja Batista no Brasil.

1860 – FIRST BAPTIST MISSIONARY SENT TO BRAZIL

Thomas Jefferson Bowen arrives in Rio de Janeiro on May 21 to minister to Yoruba-speaking slaves. Despite having a short ministry, his son in the faith, Richard Ratcliff, would eventually organize the first Baptist Church in Brazil.

No dia 5 de maio, Luther Rice desembarca em Salvador em sua viagem de retorno da Índia aos EUA. Hospeda-se na casa do cônsul norte-americano, onde faz avaliações visando mobilizar os batistas para a obra missionária.

1813 – FIRST BAPTIST STEPS FOOT IN BRAZIL

On May 5, Luther Rice visits Salvador on his return trip from India to the USA. He stays in the home of the American consul and assesses how to mobilize Baptists for missionary work.

1871 – PRIMEIRA IGREJA BATISTA NO BRASIL

No dia 10 de setembro, um grupo de imigrantes que vieram ao Brasil após a Guerra de Secessão organiza a Igreja Batista de Santa Bárbara-SP, composta por 29 pessoas de 12 famílias e pastoreada por Richard Ratcliff.

On September 10, a group of immigrants who came to Brazil after the Civil War organize the Baptist Church of Santa Bárbara, SP, composed of 29 people from 12 families and pastored by Richard Ratcliff.

Ao lado da esposa Anne, William Buck Bagby chega ao Rio de Janeiro no dia 2 de março, quando clama: “Ó Deus, concede que a tua verdade, como está em Cristo Jesus, encha esta terra, de Norte a Sul, do Atlântico aos Andes”.

William Buck Bagby, along with his wife, Anne, arrives in Rio de Janeiro on March 2, and prays aloud: “O God, grant that your truth, as it is in Christ Jesus, may fill this land, from North to South, from the Atlantic to the Andes.”

O casal Bagby, que se mudara para o Rio de Janeiro com uma convertida da Bahia, Mary O’Rorke, reúne-se na casa da senhora Elizabeth Williams, que já era Batista, fundando a Primeira Igreja Batista em 24 de agosto.

The Bagbys, who had moved to Rio de Janeiro with a convert from Bahia, Mary O’Rorke, hold a meeting at the home of Lady Elizabeth Williams, already a Baptist, establishing the First Baptist Church on August 24.

Eurico Nelson desembarca em Belém do Pará em 19 de novembro, iniciando seus 48 anos de serviço à evangelização da Amazônia. Pioneiro na plantação de igrejas em seis estados, faleceria em 17 de maio de 1939, aos 76 anos.

Eurico Nelson arrives in Belém, PA, on November 19, beginning his 48 years of service in the evangelization of the Amazon. A church planting pioneer in six states, he would pass away on May 17, 1939, at the age of 76.

Os batistas decidem que os jornais As Boas Novas e Echos da Verdade se tornariam um só: O Jornal Batista, fundado em 10 de janeiro de 1901 e que ficaria sob direção do missionário William Edwin Entzminger.

With the original name of the Foreign Mission Board, the JMM begins on June 27 upon the advice of William B. Bagby, Solomon Ginsburg is its first director and Portugal, its first mission field.

1908 – SEMINÁRIO TEOLÓGICO BATISTA DO SUL DO BRASIL

Na assembleia de 1907, Shepard, Bagby, Taylor e outros haviam sido encarregados da abertura de um colégio e um seminário no Rio de Janeiro. Em 15 de março do ano seguinte, o Seminário do Sul abre as portas com 36 alunos.

1908 – SOUTHERN BRAZIL BAPTIST THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY

At the 1907 assembly, Shepard, Bagby, Taylor and others had been charged with opening a college and seminary in Rio de Janeiro. On March 15 of the following year, Southern Seminary opens its doors with 36 students.

1908 – UNIÃO FEMININA MISSIONÁRIA BATISTA NO BRASIL

Mesmo antes de uma organização formal, mulheres já se reuniam nas igrejas para orar, estudar como evangelizar e praticar beneficência. Em 23 de junho, cria-se a União Geral de Senhoras do Brasil, hoje UFMBB.

1908 – WOMEN BAPTIST MISSIONARY UNION IN BRAZIL

Even before becoming a formal organization, women already gathered in churches to pray, learn about missions and be involved in charitable work. On June 23, the Women’s General Union of Brazil was created, today UFMBB.

1911 – PRIMEIROS MISSIONÁRIOS DA JUNTA DE MISSÕES ESTRANGEIRAS

Em 19 de agosto, o português convertido no Brasil, João Jorge de Oliveira, assume o pastorado da Igreja Batista do Porto, Portugal, tornando-se com a esposa, Prelidiana, natural de Pernambuco, o primeiro casal missionário da JME.

1911 – FIRST MISSIONARIES OF THE FOREIGN MISSION BOARD

On August 19, a Portuguese convert in Brazil, João Jorge de Oliveira, takes over the pastorate of the Baptist Church of Porto, Portugal. He and his wife, Prelidiana, born in Pernambuco, become the first missionary couple of the JMM.

1926 – ZACARIAS E NOEMI CAMPELO

Em 22 de maio, 14 dias após o casamento, o casal missionário Zacarias e Noemi Campelo embarca para uma viagem de 4 meses com destino aos índios Craôs. Noemi, a “Heroína de Craonópolis”, dormiria no Senhor em 2 de maio de 1928.

On May 22, 14 days after their wedding, missionary couple Zacarias and Noemi Campelo embark on a 4-month trip to the Craôs Indians. Naomi, the “Heroine of Craonópolis”, would pass away on May 2, 1928.

Marcolina Figueira Magalhães, primeira missionária do sexo feminino solteira, é nomeada em 1° de abril. Além de professora, Marcolina seria enfermeira, evangelista aos índios e plantadora de igrejas.

1932 – FIRST SINGLE MISSIONARY

Marcolina Figueira Magalhães, the first single female missionary, is appointed on April 1. Besides being a teacher, Marcolina would be a nurse, evangelist to the Indians and a church planter.

1946 – PRIMEIRO CAMPO NA AMÉRICA LATINA

Waldomiro e Lygia Motta são nomeados missionários e enviados à Bolívia, primeiro campo missionário da JMM na América do Sul. Em Santa Cruz de la Sierra, fundariam o primeiro Seminário Batista do país.

1946 – FIRST LATIN AMERICA FIELD

Waldomiro and Lygia Motta are appointed missionaries and sent to Bolivia, the first mission field of the JMM in South America, founding the first Bolivian Baptist Seminary in Santa Cruz de la Sierra.

Sob liderança de L. M. Bratcher, a JMN cria um programa de rádio e uma revista intitulada A Pátria Para Cristo, que ainda hoje traz aos batistas brasileiros informações sobre o campo missionário nacional.

Under the leadership of L. M. Bratcher, the JMN creates a radio program and magazine entitled The Homeland for Christ, which still brings Brazilian Baptists information on the national mission field.

William Alvin Ratton begins the first “Embassy” at the Tijuca Baptist Church in Rio de Janeiro on August 7. The King’s Messengers would be created the following year by missionary Mini Lou Lanier.

1953 – LEWIS MALEN BRATCHER

Líder da JMN por 28 anos, o Dr. Bratcher dorme no Senhor, em 16 de dezembro. Seu último pedido:“Diga à Mocidade do Brasil que prossiga na obra,que persevere na consagração, porque há muitíssima terra para ser possuída”.

1953 – LEWIS MALEN BRATCHER

Leader of the JMN for 28 years, Dr. Bratcher passes away on December 16. His last request: “Tell the Youth of Brazil to continue in the work, to persevere in dedication, because there is much land to be possessed”.

Em 2 de agosto, é realizada a primeira aula do Instituto Teológico Batista Equatorial, criado para preparar evangelistas, pastores e itinerantes para os vastos campos do Ceará, Piauí, Maranhão, Pará, Amapá, Amazonas e Guaporé.

1967 – LAR BATISTA DAVID GOMES

Em março, o Lar Batista é fundado em Barreiras-BA e batizado em homenagem a David Gomes. Durante sua gestão na JMN (1954 a 1968), marcada por relevante obra social, a organização é reconhecida como de utilidade pública pelo Governo Federal.

In March, the Baptist Home (Lar Batista) is founded in Barreiras, BA, and named after David Gomes. Distinguished by relevant social work during his administration at the JMN (1954 to 1968), the organization is recognized as a charity by the Federal Government.

1974 – TRANS TOTAL

Em 3 de dezembro, começa, na região da rodovia Transamazônica, a primeira Trans Total. O projeto, que contou com 102 voluntários e deixou duas igrejas organizadas, foi o precursor da atual Ação Jesus Transforma.

Alcides Telles de Almeida dorme no Senhor em 13 de janeiro. Em seus 24 anos à frente da JMM, os Batistas Brasileiros alcançaram Paraguai, Moçambique, Zimbábue, Angola, Açores, Uruguai, Argentina, Venezuela, França, Espanha e Canadá.

1979 – ALCIDES TELLES DE ALMEIDA

Alcides Telles de Almeida passes away on January 13. In his 24 years at the head of the JMM, Brazilian Baptists reached Paraguay, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Angola, Azores, Uruguay, Argentina, Venezuela, France, Spain and Canada.

Sob gestão de Paulo Roberto da Silva Seabra, a JMN lança o Mutirão Missionário, que mobilizaria igrejas a promoverem “operações missionárias regionais” visando ampliar o trabalho local ou abrir novas frentes missionárias próximas.

Under the management of Paulo Roberto da Silva Seabra, the JMN launches the Missionary Collective Effort, which would mobilize churches to promote “regional missionary operations” to expand local work or open new missionary fronts nearby.

In January, on the 100th anniversary of the Christian Hymnal (Cantor Cristão), the Hymnal for Christian Worship is released with 441 hymns, 161 of which are taken from the Cantor Cristão itself, after extensive revision.

Clarindo Tanhuaré, da tribo Bakairi localizada em Paranatinga-MT, é consagrado o primeiro Pastor Batista indígena e nomeado missionário, inaugurando um novo capítulo na história da evangelização indígena no Brasil.

A missionária e enfermeira Analzira Nascimento torna-se missionária da JMM em Angola, onde sobreviveria a uma guerra civil e serviria por 17 anos.

Em 20 de abril de 2007, Waldomiro Tymchak dorme no Senhor, encerrando seus 28 anos à frente da JMM, período em que impulsionou os Batistas a avançarem mais na conquista das nações, principalmente daquelas mais fechadas ao evangelho.

On April 20, Waldomiro Tymchak passes away, ending his 28 years as the head of the JMM, a period in which he pushed Baptists to advance further in the conquest of nations, especially those most closed to the gospel.

Fruto do trabalho iniciado pelo casal Guenther e Wanda Krieger em 1959, é publicado, em 20 de outubro, o Novo Testamento na língua Xerente.

A JMN cria, em São Paulo, a Missão Batista Cristolândia, cujo objetivo é resgatar o usuário de drogas e morador de rua e promover sua ressocialização e restauração completa como discípulo de Jesus.

A JMN celebra a inauguração do novo Lar Batista F.F. Soren, em Porto Nacional-TO. Fruto da campanha Construtores do Futuro, que recebeu doações de todo país, o complexo é formado por 12 prédios com casas-lares, salas de atendimento, refeitório e quadra esportiva.

The JMN celebrates the inauguration of the new Baptist Home (Lar Batista F.F. Soren), in Porto Nacional, TO. Fruit of the Builders of the Future campaign, which received donations from all over the country, the complex consists of 12 buildings with homes, meeting rooms, cafeteria and an athletic field.

Em 7 de junho, as duas juntas missionárias se unem e promovem, em Sumaré-SP, o SIM – Todos somos vocacionados, um dos maiores congressos sobre vocação já realizados no país, com 1.500 pessoas.

On June 7, the two missionary associations unite and promote, in Sumaré, SP, the SIM, one of the largest conferences on Christian vocation ever held in the country, with 1,500 people in attendance.

Em 22 de abril, tiveram início os 100 dias de oração pelo Brasil da campanha Seja Luz, encerrada em julho com a Mega Trans. O projeto envolveria mais de 50 mil voluntários em 3 mil frentes de trabalho em todos os estados, gerando 87.882 decisões por Cristo.

On April 22, the 100 days of prayer for Brazil begins for the Be the Light (Seja a Luz) campaign, ending in July with Mega Trans. The project would involve more than 50,000 volunteers on 3,000 work fronts in all states, generating 87,882 decisions for Christ.

2014 – IGREJA MULTIPLICADORA

Durante a Assembleia da CBB realizada em João Pessoa-PB, a JMN apresenta aos Batistas Brasileiros a visão de Igreja Multiplicadora, reformulada com base em 5 princípios bíblicos para crescimento da igreja local: oração, evangelização discipuladora, plantação de igrejas, formação de líderes e compaixão e graça.

2014 – MULTIPLYING CHURCHES (IGREJA MULTIPLICADORA)

During the annual assembly of the CBB, held in João Pessoa, PB, the JMN presents to the Brazilian Baptists the vision of Igreja Multiplicadora, redesigned based on 5 biblical principles for local church growth: prayer, disciple evangelization, church planting, formation of leaders and compassion and grace.

2015 – 500 MIL BÍBLIAS DISTRIBUÍDAS EM PAÍSES FECHADOS

A JMM distribui 500 mil Bíblias em países fechados à pregação do Evangelho e chegaria, ao final do ano, com presença em 89 campos e 1.533 missionários.

The JMM distributes 500,000 Bibles in countries closed to the preaching of the Gospel and would arrive, at the end of the year, with a presence in 89 fields and 1,533 missionaries.

Em 2 de abril, o programa Fantástico, da Rede Globo, destaca a história de Silvia Regina, que vivia na Cracolândia, em São Paulo, e teve sua vida transformada pelo evangelho.

O Programa de Interiorização para Refugiados, que começara em 2018 com os venezuelanos em Boa Vista-RR, expande-se em 19 de abril com a inauguração da Vila Minha Pátria, em Morungaba-SP, para acolhimento de afegãos.

2022 – MY HOMELAND VILLAGE (VILA MINHA PÁTRIA)

The Assimilation Program for Refugees, which began in 2018 with Venezuelans in Boa Vista, RR, expands on April 19 with the inauguration of Vila Minha Pátria, in Morungaba, SP, to welcome Afghan refugees.
